Job Description
Teachers are responsible and accountable for the academic progress of the students they teach, collaboration with colleagues and participation in the development of the subject department. Subject teachers should be purposeful in promoting a positive, professional
working atmosphere that encourages cooperation, challenge and higher levels of teaching and learning. At TH School we value all contributions that individuals make to the success of the department and schools.
Overall Responsibilities
● Maintain high standards in all aspects of school work.
● Maximise learning, particularly in student progress within the Cambridge A-Level Computer Science syllabus.
● Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the school.
● Adhere to and promote a school culture that is positive, purposeful, and professional.
● Support and motivate students, teachers, and other school staff.
● Establish and maintain feedback, consultation, reporting, review, and improvement processes.
Teaching and Learning Responsibilities
● Plan and prepare well-structured lessons appropriate to the Cambridge A-Level Computer Science syllabus and student abilities.
● Ensure the classroom is a stimulating environment that facilitates learning in the field of Computer Science.
● Generate enthusiasm for the subject and inspire all students to work to their potential in Computer Science.
● Liaise with Learning Support where a student may have special educational needs
● Promote higher standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to study
● Set homework pertinent to the student’s ability and wider workload
● Be punctual to lessons
● Promote high standards in language use, especially as it relates to the study of Computer Science.
● Provide high-quality, accurate, constructive, and targeted information to parents, including through Google Classroom, School Management Software, in subject reports, incidental meetings, and other communications
● Assess, record, and monitor the progress of all students according to school guidelines.
● Maintain materials and resources needed for effective teaching in Computer Science.

TH School will be introducing International A-Level Computer Science (CIE), syllabus code 9618.
Desirable Skills and Attributes for Teachers
● Sound content knowledge and experience in teaching Computer Science
● Understanding of Computer Science and STEM subject area, confidence in teaching the course components effectively and proven experience in taking students to the examination level with excellent results
● Understanding of the Cambridge Computer Science examination format and subject matter
● Willingness to take a lead role in running the school’s extracurricular activities relating to the subject area or to offer alternative extracurricular activities
● Ability to effectively monitor student performance and provide intervention to support students when needed in the subject matter
● Awareness of the needs of EAL learners (the majority of our students are non-native English speakers), and firm knowledge of strategies to support and scaffold students’ language development with their understanding of syllabus content
● Knowledge of subject related formative assessment strategies and a willingness to routinely incorporate these into lessons
● Willingness to undertake regular professional development to continually enhance subject knowledge and classroom teaching practice
● Ability to extend learning through encouragement of additional reading and practice materials
● Ability to write academic references and letters of recommendation for students applying for university
● Willingness to support students with the writing of personal statements for admission into UK universities
● Willingness to help prepare students for the UCAC admissions and other university processes
● Enthusiasm to offer regular revision and intervention sessions for students outside of normal teaching hours (at lunchtimes and after school), particularly in the lead up to external examinations
Requirements
● Enthusiastic, committed and ambitious
● Teaching qualification accepted for mainstream public schools
● At least Bachelor Degree in relevant subject
● Postgraduate teaching Diploma (UK PGCE or equivalent with QTS)
● At least three (3) years IGCSE and A-Level or IB or AP teaching experience
● Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities

● Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language
● A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life
● Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children
● Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls made to each referee
