Position Summary:
The EAL Co-Teacher is responsible for supporting the EAL Lead in delivering high-quality English instruction to students in grades 9-12. This role involves collaborative teaching, individualized student support, classroom management, and active participation in the broader school community. The EAL Co-Teacher will also work closely with subject teachers, under the guidance of the EAL Lead, to provide EAL support for students, ensuring their language needs are met across all subjects.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Support:

    • Collaborate with the EAL Lead to deliver engaging and effective lessons that incorporate EAL strategies, enhancing students' language skills and comprehension across all subjects.

    • Develop and adapt lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to meet the needs of diverse learners.

    • Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to students requiring additional support.

    • Reinforce key language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening, to enhance students' English proficiency.
       

  2. Student Supervision and Support:

    • Supervise students during class activities, maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

    • Provide academic support during assessments, including exam supervision and marking as needed.

    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, offering insights into student progress and areas for improvement.
       

  3. Classroom Management and Organization:

    • Maintain a well-organized and tidy learning environment.

    • Utilize teaching software such as Google Classroom to enhance instruction and communication.

    • Assist in managing student behavior and promoting a positive classroom culture.
       

  4. Support for Subject Teachers:

    • Collaborate with subject content teachers to identify struggling students who may benefit from additional EAL support.

    • Share effective language development strategies and resources to enhance comprehension and academic performance.

    • Participate in interdisciplinary planning to ensure language barriers do not hinder subject understanding.

    • Provide targeted language support for students in classes, helping them access complex texts and express their understanding effectively.
       

  5. Professional Duties:

    • Cover lessons if EAL Lead is absent, ensuring continuity of instruction.

    • Support the organization and facilitation of extracurricular activities, enhancing the overall student experience.

    • Attend and actively participate in school meetings, contributing to a collaborative school culture.

 


Professional Development:

  • Participate in workshops, training sessions, and collaborative planning meetings to enhance teaching skills and subject knowledge.

  • Engage in reflective teaching practices, seeking feedback and implementing strategies for continuous improvement.

  • Support the delivery of EAL-related professional development

JOB REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATION:

  • At least Bachelor's Degree in English field

RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 1 years teaching/co-teaching experience in English. 

  • Teaching/Co-Teaching International programs will be an advantage.

  • Experience in working at bi-lingual, international schools or schools with foreign elements will be an advantage

  • Experience with international curricula, particularly Cambridge International, is desired but not essential. The successful candidate will be trained in this curriculum if necessary.
