Job Overview:
The Boarding School Teacher and Residential Life Coordinator is a key member of the boarding school community, responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive living environment for Gr. 9-12 students on the Hoa Lac Campus. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the residential experience by mentoring students, managing dorm life, coordinating activities, providing academic support, and promoting personal growth, wellbeing, and academic success. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with adolescents and committed to creating a positive, nurturing community.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentorship
-
- Provide daily guidance and support to residential students, helping them navigate personal, social, and academic challenges.
- Foster a sense of community by promoting open communication, inclusivity, and respect among students.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model, encouraging personal growth, leadership, and responsibility.
Academic Support
Supervise structured study time during the afternoon and early evenings and provide tutoring services in English in one of the following advanced academic areas during the evenings: (IGCSE/A Level Mathematics, IGCSE/A Level Sciences, English/Academic Writing)
- Academic Guidance: Assist students with understanding and completing their homework, projects, and assignments.
- Subject-Specific Support: Provide targeted help in your specific subject(s) where students may struggle.
- Time Management Assistance: Help students plan and prioritize their evening study sessions.
- Skill Development: Encourage the development of study skills such as note-taking, research, and test preparation.
- Resource Provision: Offer access to additional learning materials, resources, or tools when needed.
- Progress Monitoring: Track students' progress and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
- Motivation and Encouragement: Foster a positive learning environment and motivate students to stay focused.
- Behavior Management: Ensure a calm and productive atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with students, teachers, and parents about academic performance and challenges.
- Safeguarding: Be aware of and uphold the school’s safeguarding policies during tutoring sessions.
Dormitory Management

- Supervise dormitory living, including enforcing policies, addressing disciplinary issues, and maintaining a safe, secure environment.
- Conduct regular check-ins, dorm meetings, and inspections to ensure students' wellbeing and compliance with school rules.
Residential Programming & Activities

- Plan, organise, and implement residential life programs and extracurricular activities that promote community building, student engagement, and personal development.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student leaders to design social, recreational, and educational events.
- Facilitate activities that encourage healthy living, time management, and academic success.
Administrative Duties

- Contribute to the development and implementation of residential policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the Boarding Director, the Principal, the Counselor, and teachers about student concerns and progress.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in dealing with sensitive student issues.
Collaboration with Faculty and Staff

- Work closely with academic faculty, counsellors, and administrators to ensure students’ overall wellbeing and academic success.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and training sessions to support the broader mission of the school.
- Assist in the orientation of new students and staff, ensuring smooth transitions into residential life.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or in a human services field
- Certification to teach high school English, Sciences, or Mathematics
- Advanced level of English; near fluent.
- Interested in working with adolescent children.
- Willingness to work one weekend day.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to provide individual and small group advanced level English language tutoring services in one of the following areas: (Mathematics, Sciences, Academic Writing).
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Willingness to live on campus and engage fully in the boarding school community, including evening and weekend commitments.
