Zither Class – Where Traditional Melodies Meet Modernity
Category
Not just an ordinary vocal or piano lesson, let’s explore the unique Zither (or Sixteen-string Zither) class at TH School - a place where students delve into the richness of traditional Vietnamese music and create melodies that are folksy and soulful.
As part of the Vietnamese Performance Arts (VPA) program, the Zither class is exclusively designed for TH School students by Conductor Dong Quang Vinh – a dedicated artist with a profound passion for preserving and promoting the beauty of traditional music.
Under the dedicated guidance of teachers, students not only practice fundamental techniques such as pressing, vibrato, and gliding, but also experiment with innovative arrangements of familiar international melodies. This class provides a unique opportunity for young learners to connect with their cultural roots in a modern way. When the soothing sounds of the Zither are fused with contemporary music styles, students breathe new life into traditional Vietnamese music, offering a fresh perspective on its timeless beauty.
Beyond the Zither, TH School students also explore other traditional Vietnamese instruments, such as the bamboo xylophone from Vietnam’s central highlands and traditional drums, through the VPA program. This hands-on experience allows students to appreciate the history, preserve the essence of these distinctive art forms, and carry the spirit of Vietnamese culture beyond borders - representing a connection between Vietnam’s rich heritage and the global stage.
