On 20 April, several teams of TH School students competed in the 2019 Olympia Film Festival.

Our students came together with students from different international schools around Hanoi, including International School of Vietnam (ISV), United Nations International School of Hanoi (UNIS), Wellspring International Bilingual School (WIS) and Olympia, for a fun night of viewing each others films and winning various awards. Students were challenged by being given a genre, a prop to use, and a line of dialogue “But what about us?” that all had to be incorporated into their films. Furthermore, teams were only given 9 days to complete the films from start to finish. Our students certainly rose to the challenge and produced some intriguing short films. 

There Was a Love Story

From Hoà Lạc campus, production team “We Need Girls” submitted a movie entitled “There Was a Love Story”, which was nominated for 7 awards, including Best Use Of Required Dialogue, Best Use Of Genre, Best Use Of Required Reference, Best Script, Best Music, Best Male Lead for Grade 9 student Nguyễn Anh Quân and won the award for Best use of a Required Prop.

D-Day

Also from Hoà Lạc, team “We Can’t Think of A Name Productions” entered the movie entitled “D-Day”, which was a science-fiction love story between an aspiring astronaut and his girlfriend. This movie certainly pulled on the heart-strings of most attendees. 

Dystopia

Two teams represented our Chùa Bộc campus in the event. Team “Dusk ‘til Dawn” gave us one of the few animations of the event with their movie “Dystopia” a science-fiction piece which earned them the award for Best Sound, a nomination for Best Editing and a place in the top six films of the festival.

Between the Spreadsheets

Also from Chùa Bộc we saw team “TTUK” present their silent film “Between the Spreadsheets” exploring family themes. The film won a very worthy nomination for Grade 12 student Nguyễn Gia Khánh for Best Female Lead.

Overall, it was a very successful event for our students, and we look forward to seeing how well our school is represented in future events.
